July 2025

Morena,

At the beginning of the month we met up with our favourite Aussie, Tony Bebb, who arrived for a series of bonsai workshops. We picked him up from the bus station in Hamilton on Friday evening and went for a Thai meal in Hamilton before heading home.

On the Saturday and Sunday there were club workshops at Hamilton Gardens with a Malaysian meal out with the club on Saturday evening.

We had three full days of private work with Tony. Ann managed to work on over a dozen trees whilst Peter worked on two.

For his birthday, Peter got a loco, some track and decoders from Ann and the girls.

Tony worked with Peter on repotting his large Chinese elm as well as wiring a Redwood group for Ann which had belonged to Marshall.

Then we went out to Peter’s favourite restaurant for a Thai meal.

The club meeting was Tony giving a critique on trees brought in by club members.

Peter has finished his physio classes for his knee, now he just has to keep doing the exercises on his own.

With the school holidays in mid July Peter found his shifts at the gardens to be quite busy, they went back to quiet once the kids went back to school. On his way in to work one lunchtime he got stuck in another rural traffic jam – cows being moved to a new paddock with fresh grass.

Ann slowly getting about more with the aid of “Zoomie” and she’s starting to do a few jobs such as ironing and mopping the floors.

A short burst of activity before resting again.

A sunny but cold spell in the second half of the month saw Peter and Sox going out for their morning walk in temperatures just above freezing. Getting back an hour later it had warmed up a bit for Honey to meet them in the paddock – for their short drive around the village.

Frosty Morning just before our walk.

Our village bakery has moved to new premises – brand new building right next door to old bakery.

On the 31st the club beginners courses started up again with Peter leading the first session. Ann didn’t come this time as there is not a lot for the helpers to do on the first evening.

With the month almost over and most of the bonsai events done and dusted Ann took Peter out for a meal at Fahrenheit.

What else is there to do on cold, windy days?
