Nau mai, haere mai – welcome to our November news,
The mower stopped going into reverse at the end of October and it took three weeks to fix. By that time the grass had grown rather tall and we spent a while mowing the long grass in the garden. When it came to the paddock area it managed to do about one quarter of the area before going on strike! The grass was so long it took Peter 4½ hours to cut it down with the line trimmer before he could then go over it with the mower.
Peter’s ute also misbehaved. One Sunday morning it had a flat battery. Peter hadn’t left any lights on or anything. $300 for a new battery and all is good again.
Ann was one of the leaders for our monthly bonsai meeting talking about accent plants and display stands.
Our annual bonsai show is the weekend before Christmas. It’s been an anxious 6 months waiting for the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion to be ready after extensive renovations being done to all the rooms in the pavilion and the information centre. The work will stop in time for our show (and Christmas) then resume until about Easter next year.
We’ve had some beautiful, hot and sunny days. The girls move around the garden throughout the day, looking for the coolest, shadiest spots to chill out in.
We hosted a sale of Marshall’s bonsai trees, pots, stands, tools, books and accessories over one weekend. She has generously donated all her collection to the club and we invited members to come and buy from her large collection. Everything we did not sell was packed away and put into our sleepout for us to sell next month at the club show.
Peter got stuck at the level crossing in Ohaupo on his way back from Paeroa one Friday. The chances of getting stopped at a rail crossing are incredibly small – there are so few trains in NZ.
Honey has taken to barging into the bedroom and barking in Ann’s ear of a morning to wake her up! Once Ann is up Honey then settles onto the bed for a snooze!
On the 27th Peter watched a 55 year old RNZAF C130-H Hercules fly low over the village during its final farewell flight around the country. Five of the aircraft are being retired and replaced byC130-J Super Hercules.
Merry Christmas
