Nau mai, haere mai, hello and welcome!
The month began with Sox having her teeth cleaned and one tooth removed. Apparently it was rotten but we’d seen no sign of her struggling to eat or in pain.
It’s been a busy month for Bonsai. Firstly we collected Tony Bebb, our Australian bonsai friend, from Marshall’s house in Te Kauwhata. He’d spent the day working with Marshall on her bonsai. Before we drove back home we had a lovely meal at the local tavern.
We dropped Marshall back at her house and picked up Tony’s suitcase. But Bart, Marshall’s youngest cat, decided he didn’t want Tony to go so he started running around outside, in the dark and hiding beneath Peter’s Ute. Finally, 20 minutes later, Ann managed to chase him up a small lemon tree and catch him.
Peter’s birthday was quiet with him going up to Marshall’s to continue clearing out the garden sheds and poly tunnel – sorting out her bonsai stuff and moving it to her new house in the retirement village.
Peter did get a load of railway parts to add buildings and lighting to the railway from Ann and the girls.
Renovations have finally begun on the new tourist information centre at Hamilton Gardens so staff have finally moved into the temporary Portacabin until the work is done – probably about 4 months.
It’s rather ‘bijou’ inside and can easily get crowded whilst trying to explain the layout of the enclosed gardens to visitors.
At the beginning of July Ann had a phone consult with her GP who prescribed some antibiotics for her sinusitis. A week later Ann had a face to face appointment for treatment because she’d developed an allergic reaction to her make-up. It’s been an uncomfortable month as her face was sore and itchy for several weeks, and it’s taking a long time for the rash to disappear.
Back to bonsai and we spent two days with Tony working on our trees as well as him doing several days of club workshops and more private tuition with other club members.
On the Saturday evening following the workshop, we had a club meal with Tony at Babaganush, a Turkish restaurant in Hamilton East.
We’ve been given three sheepskins – ostensibly for the girls. Eventually Sox was persuaded to, briefly, lie on one!
Whilst ‘Honey the Destroyer’ managed to chew one side during the five minutes she was left alone one morning.
Needless to say, they are not allowed the sheepskins any more. Two have gone over to the sleepout for Peter to line his old chair for his old bones!
Azaria and Carolien came to visit and sample more of the delicious home baked chocolate brownies! Azaria is becoming a beautiful and clever young lady.
Although Honey and Sox enjoy having visitors they also love being able to stretch out on the sofa’s.
