Kia ora Whanau, Hello family and friends,
April was a great month reading-wise for us with two charity second hand book fairs organised. Altogether Ann found 21 books and Peter discovered 7 – a great result especially for Peter as he doesn’t often find books which interest him.
Peter is now working solo at the Hamilton Gardens (on his fortnightly afternoon shift) as the number of volunteers has dropped, plus there are usually fewer visitors over the late autumn and winter months. The new information centre building is looking great – we can’t wait ’til we get to see the inside.
Our bonsai friend Marshall moved again – this time to Tamahere Eventide. The staff there are very experienced with conditions like dementia and Marshall has settled in really well.
April was also quite a busy month for bonsai. The club meeting was mostly about selling club stock to local members. We managed to load up Peter’s Ute, Steve’s trailer and Ann’s car – all club stuff – trees, display tables, pots, rocks and tools – that we’ve been looking after.
We also spent a morning helping at a beginners workshop ……
…… and Peter ran the final class for the beginners course.
Peter went to a model railway exhibition in Te Awamutu. He went looking for trees and sheep – and came back with tree stumps!
We managed to get three FULL trailer loads of mulch from a hedge which was chopped down in the village. We unloaded and spread the first two trailer loads in two days but left the third load in the trailer for a day or two as we were too knackered to move it. Still, we shouldn’t get so many weeds growing around the bonsai display areas, raised beds and the shade house.

The 25th of April is ANZAC Day and we again attended the dawn service in the village. Once again the weather played its part.

Azaria and Carolien came to visit – and eat Ann’s yummy chocolate brownies, of course.
Ann tried to block access to the sofa whilst the cover was being washed and dried – epic fail there!

Sox wants a car ride!
