Kia ora and welcome to our November news,
Peter had a problem with a swollen right knee at the start of the month, slowing down and shortening his walks with Sox for a bit whilst it recovered.
Peter’s controller arrived back from repair in the USA so he is now running trains again. He has added more buildings to the layout, including the Police Station, Garage, platform and more shops. He has also managed to finish laying the track for the main circuits so he can run three trains at the same time.
The girls are still keeping us on our toes. When we go out with them people think they’re so good and well behaved – if they only knew!
We had a week of heavy rain in the second half of the month. We recorded 57mm in 24 hours followed by 38mm the next day then 5mm then 42mm, 8mm, 24mm, 13mm and 18mm. By the end of the month we had a lot more taking us to over 280mm, normally for November we have about 85mm. Even though it rained a lot we were able to get out to take the girls for their daily walk, although we did have to adapt our times, durations and routes on occasion.
On the day after the rains the river was even higher than during the flooding in October.
The rains managed to flood our driveway and the road in front of our gate (the water is more than ankle deep in the centre).
Work continues on cutting up the four trees we had felled for firewood. Peter’s probably cut up enough for next winter and there is still plenty to go.
The Hamilton Gardens and Information Centre (where we both volunteer) are steadily getting busier with more visitors travelling to NZ from overseas, mostly Australians but there are some from further afield including Canada and Alaska.
Peter managed to bath both girls this month. Honey is always resigned to having her regular baths but Peter managed to trick Sox into the shower cubicle too and give her a bath! They both spent the afternoon on the deck recovering!
We enjoyed an evening of wine, chat and Peter’s home made curries with neighbours Bev, Tom and Rob.
Wow! Christmas is almost here!!!
