    Worked as a Steam Engine Fitter at the turn of the century and as a Fireman at Cadbury's

    Bought a piece of land (now flooded by Frankley Reservoir) and two 1914-18 war huts (by auction) and made them into a bungalow. They reared chickens and turkeys on the land. The chickens (not the turkeys) were stolen one night, suspected but not proven, by gypsies.

    In the 1920s John Reuben and Harry used to commute by train to work at Longbridge, Austin Motor Company.
